Do you have a valid CBT certificate?

You can now ride a moped with  L  plates providing it's no more than 50cc and below 4kW until your CBT certificate expires.

You must complete your compulsory basic training.

You can now ride an A1 light motorcycle (up to 125cc not exceeding 11kW) with  L  plates until your CBT certificate expires.

Do you have a valid theory test certificate?

I hold a valid theory test certificate | I do not hold a valid theory test certificate

You can now take your 2 part practical A1 motorcycle test on a bike between 120cc and 125cc and not exceeding 11kW

The only reason you should take your A1 test is if you would like to ride without  L  plates and/or carry a pillion passenger, otherwise, it would be better to wait until you are 19 so you can move on to your A2 licence.

You must pass your motorcycle theory test before you can go on to take your 2 part practical A1 motorcycle test on a bike between 120cc and 125cc and not exceeding 11kW.

You can now take your 2 part practical motorcycle test on a bike between 120cc and 125cc and not exceeding 11kW

If you have been riding since you were 16 years of age it might be beneficial to take your CBT again at 18 then wait until you are 19 and take your 2 part practical motorcycle test on a bike of at least 395cc and between 25kW to 35kW. Doing it this way means you only need take two tests to gain your unlimited A category license instead of three, once at 19 years of age and again at 21.

You must pass your motorcycle theory test before you can go on to take your 2 part practical motorcycle test on a bike between 120cc and 125cc and not exceeding 11kW.
